Why do you fish?

There\'s a line in the book that says something along the lines of throwing away your watch and living your life by the rise and fall of the tide. I can cope with that.

Started fishing from my dad and granda\'s boats when I was about 5 and started shore fishing when the boats went and I was 12. Kicked into touch when I was about 22 and the wife and kids came along (apart from the occasion spinning session). Started full time again in 2000 (at the age of 33) after a nasty divorce and fished ever since. Fish the SW of Scotland in the summer with the kids and new partner and enjoy watching them catching, the scenery, the wildlife etc etc. Fish the NE in the winter on my own and enjoy the peace and quiet, the anticipation of the \"big un\", the scenery, wildlife, fantastic sunrises - it goes on and on.

Its where we find our \"space\" in the grand scheme of things, can anybody really explain why we do it?

i agree with most of whats been said above, i love the \"getting away from it all\" the peace and tranquillity, sometimes a good crack on with mates or sometimes strangers and on other occasions just being on my own miles away from everyone, just me nature and a rod and reel.
but it would be hypocritical of me to say the catching aspect doesn\'t matter it does. true i can have a great time fishing even when i blank but i enjoy it even more when i catch !
i do a lot more pike fishing than sea fishing now and my wife just can\'t comprehend what enjoyment i can get living in a bivvy miles away from the nearest human on a scottish lochside in the middle of winter for 4 or 5 days at a time, but i love it, nothing better than landing a nice big 20lber getting a couple of photos using the self timer on the camera, then returning her and see her power off into the depths, makes me feel very humble that such a wonderful creature has graced me with its pressence. however i must admit its getting to become an obsession, if i\'m not actually fishing i\'m daydreaming of big pike, suppose i\'m just a real sad b***ard, at least thats what our lass thinks.

Been fishing now for nigh on 30 years now, since my dad used to take me to the harbour wall at Seahouses on our hols. I got really into it from 15. When I was 18-19 and on the dole, getting my own bait 7 days a week and fishing matches as far away as the Isle of Man. I then gave in to the hormones and a thirst for alcohol not long after that!! :P, mostly gave up the club and match scene and concentrated on pleasure fishing instead. just started to fish the matches regularly again, but still love my pleasure sessions.

Eveything that everyone says on here rings true. Its the peace, the scenery, the crack, the solitude - everything. One thing I developed quickly was a love for the sea, and the respect it needs.

Parked me arse on the box on Blyth beach early this morning and thought about this thread for ages. NOW I know why I fish. Cheers Paul.

Jim.

looks like the cambois side to me alan ,but not coming from the area i couldnt say for sure lol
Thats right Bri the two jetties are next to the row of houses, the Alcan holding silo\'s are to the left of the houses.

I love the sea especially when its rough, I love climbing cliffs and sitting fishing in the middle of nowhere. I Love to see the stars and meteorites, I love the peace and quiet. Ive seen the northern lights a few times and they were spectaculer. I love to compete every now and again (not to often though as it can spoil it), I love collecting bait, and most of all I love catching fish. I still shake the same now as I did when I caught my first fish as a kid. I fish because I love it!!!

go to try to catch a fish :casstet: but keep hitting my head on this wall, one day my time will come. open open just seeing if T.C. had made the word a swear word.
