gave port carlisle another go today this time with my son, he managed to get the day off work. set off at 5-30am the roads were nice and quiet so took us just under two hours to get there. arrived just before 7-30am. got set up and fishing by 8-00am. quite a chilly start but soon warmed up and turned into a beautiful hot windless day. took about 45 minutes til the tide started to race in, the flounders following closely behind. my son was trying a light barbel rod out and was rewarded with some great sport on it. he ended up with about a dozen flounders and i ended up with about 30 flounders, all fish bar 2 were on fresh crab the other 2 on macky strip. hectic sport and lovely hot weather what more could you ask for.
heres some piccys

Hi micky was just wondering how far were you away from port of carlisle caravan park was this?

About half a mile I think, I was fishing right in front of the little pull in on the sharp bend about a mile before port Carlisle, the one where's there's room for 4 or 5 cars.

To answer g.ordons questions it's almost exclusively flounders, I know there's plenty mullet there whether any ever get caught I'm not sure. I've heard of the very occasional bass and odd eel, if it's plaice your after you better off at maryport, you'll find 99.9% of the fish you catch at port Carlisle are flounders.
