braid

With a multi yes plus it adds a bit of stretch into things. With an f/s I use a braid leader as it eliminates ring wraps. Granted it feels a bit harsh at first but you soon adjust mate.

Braid

sorry, i didnt say there was anything wrong with it, just that it is thicker.

if you just want the feel and bite detection braid gives you then the spectra will be fine.

but if you want to fish with finer lines that will give better distance and less tidal drag then look for something a bit finer but you do have to pay a lot more for it.

Never used braid on a multiplier but have it on all my spinning reels
tried a couple of brands and I find power pro the best for me sent away for a spool of 40lb spectra 0.32 dia about 18.5 kg a year ago from China and never used it I think it is to thick for my smaller reels 3000/4000 might be ok on my 8000 but never had the confidence to use it I have power pro 15kg 0.23 dia which is much thinner and power pro in30kg in0.36 which looks and feels thinner than the spectra 0.32 not having a go at the Chinese stuff might have getting it from the wrong guy but will have it in my bag when I go to Fuerteventura in May anyone looking for power pro have a look at a guy called Bleak Hall on Ebay he does some good deals on 500 yds spools

Anth I bought some of the Chinese braid from eBay and it has been totally spot on mate an very cheap. Managed a few good fish on it over the summer and have had no problems. It's well worth considering obviously depending on how quick you want it to arrive (ie: took 3wks for mine!)

yes i agree with you there fully.

I've used cheap Chinese spectra with a mono leader for my last couple of outings. Great for bite detection. 50lb braids finer than the 15lb mono I usually use and the 60lb rovex leader gives a good stretch compensates for any tugs.

I've been getting the drag setup so anything that shakes it's head isnt ripping the hook out.

The braids laid over mono to fill my fixed spool. Just over a fiver for 500m delivered within 2 weeks.

Now that I've tried it and like it I'm happy to spend more on a branded braid next time.

My advice is always use a bimini twist before attaching a leader, genie clip or whatever. It's slippery stuff.

ive found some dyneema spectra braid 1000m 30lb for £12.52 free p&p, its 0.26mm thickness, will this be ok or should i go for 40lb

Im not keen on using it on a multi especially fishing rough ground when pulling out of snags it embeds in itself causing your next cast to just stop dead mid air, I only use it on a fixed spool now when float fishing

Depends what's most important to you.

The 30lb 0.26 braid is equivalent to most 10-12lb mono options so it's going to cast well while being 3-4 times stronger.

If you up the breaking strain and increase the braid thickness you will get more tidal and wind pull and sacrifice casting distance but it'll be more abrasion resistant.
Like I said, it depends what's important to you.

Two things I see regularly never cease to amaze me. First - people get snagged and they rive and rive away with the rod even though it is clear they are stuck fast. Recipie for a snapped tip somewhere down the line.

Second - people get snagged so they walk back from the snag with the rod and reel parallel to the beach until they snap out. Recipie for a bent spindle and a knacked reel.

With braid it is a doddle. With the thicker braid (say .36mm and up) just wrap it round your arm (as long as you have a sleeve - don't whatever you do try this on a bare arm), a couple of steps back and that's it your either free or broken off. Thinner braid just have a short length of wood or metal, wrap the braid round that and again a couple of steps back and you are again free or broken off. No risk whatsoever of a knacked reel or embedding and it takes seconds to pull out of the snags (and with the thicker braid you more often than not get everything back :) )
