Hi lads live local to the big beach at south shields and down there almost every day. Tonight for the first time and I can see two white floats which are approx 100 metres off the tip of trow rocks where it is mostly sand don't look like lobster pot dans .... any one know what they could be?

If its a net the way its positioned it will catch anything coming close to the shore from the target and big beach sides of trow

must be the time of the year m8,

it seem's there's a net stretched across the Wansbeck at sandy bay.

the trout heading up to spawn haven't got a chance.

I saw a small red fishing boat drop these floats around high tide yesterday as I was fishing Graham Sands but didn't take much notice of exactly what was going on, I didn't see any pots lifted though.

the 1's at sandy bay were actually in the flatty pool, nowhere near the mouth.

so, unless it was some kind of study, which a doubt, when fish are travelling to spawn,

a can't see it being legal.

wonder if this is the same red boat that tried to wipe out all the fishing line and rods on pier today

Read about that m8 what a dickhead never understood why there seems to be this rivalry between the two

Sounds like it could be bass...as usual be careful with catch reports concerning bass

After concerns were raised by NESA forum members regarding the possibility of illegal netting in the district; one of our fishery officers travelled to the River Wansbeck to investigate. This was on 14/4/2014 at around 11:30am.
Upon conversing with staff at the boat club, it transpired that the markers sighted (white, plastic milk bottles) were in fact anchored at either side of the river and were being used as improvised navigation markers. This was confirmed by the fishery officer.
They were placed there by someone wishing to tow/push a vessel up the river.
It was also mentioned that some of the markers had been washed away by the sea. It is possible that these have been sighted away from the mouth of the river.
Northumberland IFCA will gladly investigate any suspicious activity noted by the RSA community in the district. Please contact the office on (01670) 797 676 and ask to speak to a fishery officer.
