Newbie peeler question

All crabs peel in order to grow. Usuallly we use green shore crab, edible crab have a size limit and are generally frowned upon being used as bait. As the weather warms up ya should be able to find a few under rocks ;)

Peelers

Peelers

Hi Mick.

Heres a link about peelers, quite interesting.
Peeler Crab

But basically all crabs peel as their skeletons are on the outside, as they grow they "peel" off the whole outer shell legs and all leaving the new soft shell underneath to harden.

oh its getting nearly that time a year again when crabs will be crawling under that rock to molt and every man and hes dog will be looking for them
Let The Crab Wars Begin :D

Heres me going to be a bit of a nerd, but there is actually a crab that lives at very deep water (deepest parts in cold waters) that actually doent peel. It has very few predetors so it has more of a soft velvet shell, like that of a crab thats just peeled.

Thort that was quite cool myself...:D
