Arrived about 1pm to find Jimmy & Dean in the Lodge for Lunch & a break from the slow sport. They had been there from 10.30am & had 2 Fish each at that time.
Paul (Kirky) joined us shortly after not looking too well, suffering Joint pain.
Got fishing about 2.15pm & headed near the Dam Wall on the Big Lake. Had 4 out of there on Buzzers & Nymphs before Tea.
Back out to the big Lake about 6pm & headed back to the same spot. Tried without success with Buzzers for some time, the North Wind was horrendous & bitingly cold so fishing was uncomfortable & so decided to fish my "Go to" Lure which usually does the business in hard times.
First cast nothing & as i was reeling in, a big fat lump tried without success to leap out the Water close by, to fat by far to succeed.
Second cast, the Lure was sinking & hit like a steam Train by what i am certain was that same fish.
After several minutes & several Tail Walks i had it, a lovely Rainbow which we weighed at 12lb & a new PB for me.:heartpump:
Sorry about not getting a Pic, but being on C&R, it is important to stress these biguns as little as possible, so got it out of the net & held it for about 5 minutes while it recovered. Sadly, quite a few of these big fish dont survive the fight & drop to the bottom, this one went back well i am happy to report.
After no further success i moved to the Albert Lake where i had one more on a Dry Fly but that was to be my last of the day.
At 8pm, chilled to the Bone, i called it a day, leaving Dean & Jimmy to fish till Dusk. They will let us know how they got on later i guess.
Paul had to leave early not feeling well at all but i know he had a few out before he went. Get well soon m8.
Happy with 6 Fish & a new PB, just desperate for some nice Dry Fly Weather. Hope it arrives before Winter does.
