So Shields Open Result

Joe, sorry but it does not answer my question mate, my question is, and this is by your open rules,

Any areas not open to the public will be deemed as out of bounds, if the pier gates are closed to the public then surely the pier is out of bounds.
I can see both sides of the arguement here, but morally, legally and just using plain common sense, if the gates are locked, the pier is closed to members of the public ( regardless if the port of authority have allowed access to fish the open), therefore the pier is out of bounds, or am i missing something here

nope i think you got what i was trying to say in another thread jim, i take it you got a copy of the rules .just think of the implcations if this lad decides to take the club to court .id put money on the lad .

There was anglers fishing the round end during the comp but had not entered. The pics were on here yesterday.
I was gonna enter yesterday but am now glad something else came up.
The rules should apply to everyone or no one.
If it was me i would take it to the small claims court.

i just been told that more info will be on tonight so i am just gonna wait until i have all the details. Please dont anyone get me wrong here, i do think the rules are misleading with regards to NO FISHING where access to the public is denied, especially if the gates are closed to the public BUT at the end of the day the lad should not have been on before 8am, so in effect he broke the rules and on that note the committee were correct to disqualify him, however harsh it may seem i think it was the correct decision to make

All entries had a ticket, which they had to present to the marshal at the first gate after 8am, this was on the letter produced by the port of tyne authority. The port of tyne authority make an exception for the open competition every year, which we are very grateful for, the port of tyne authority will tell you that there is no fishing on the south pier without permission and public liability insurance. hope this answers your question .

question for you sir,if a marshall was present at the gate checking tickets after 8 am how come members of the public were on the pier fishing.

If you can,t go on the pier until the gates open it makes it into a race to get to the end. Its a mile or so. Thats one hell of a race with all of your fishing gear.
Mick.

definitely agree with ya jim , but the rules should apply to all who entered the competition, did he really have an unfair advantage ,its like saying he shouldnt win cause he has crabs n iv got worms,(ya naw what i mean)
if the marshals/stewards had been doing there assigned dutys correctly no angler fishing the comp would be allowed on the pier until start time.

I fished the open on Sunday and can honestly say i never heard many if any of the anglers there say they thought it was wrong that he was disqualified.
Everyone was talking about it but people just seemed to accept that he was in the wrong for going on before the gates opened, there was no bad feeling about it in the bar.

Feel for the lad as he missed out on a lot of money but all he had to do was wait at the gate on a bike and shoot along to the end when gates opened.

On the other hand if there was anyone else on before 8am they to should have been disqualified.......were they???

On a plus side can i say i had a great day and it looked like it was a good weigh in with a load of anglers fishing this open.

i was'nt fishing and never been fishing for a while due to ill health is there a problem with my comment or should i re-tracked it.

No and no. I was interested whether your comments were from a hands on perspective and the BigAndy one I simply don't understand.

Stores I think his comment was a reply to BigAndys question of

'What would you do if you found out that you were 2nd to the lad that had been tresspassing on the pier'

That's all.

Lads, I can't help but think some lads have done everything they can to begin a witch hunt with this issue. A little common sense would not go a miss here instead of twisting every response. The rules stated if the gate was locked the pier was out of bounds, the lad accessed the pier when the gate was closed, therefore he was out of bounds. As a good will gesture the master agreed to open the gate at 8.00am,therefore granting open anglers permission to access the pier, the master had no option other than to lock the gate after the anglers had accessed, otherwise members of the public would then have access creating problems for the master. it just shows how a good will gesture can back fire, giving people the opportunity to abuse memebers and the club. It seems that there is no reasoning with these narrow minded people.
Just to put a slightly different twist on this issue. The pier is a favorite fishing mark of many anglers. The Pier has been closed for a few weeks now for maintenance work, to add fishing is banned from the south pier at all times. The shields club have to be commended on taking the time and effort to contact the master to ask for permission to fish on open day, this gave participants the added option of fishing the pier, they also put in place insurance to protect the anglers and the club. Lets face it the club could have taken the easy option to just class the pier as out of bounds. I hope this can help people see that the club was making every effort to give anglers every option to have an enjoyable days fishing.
I think some members who have commented on here are out of order in the way they have commented on the clubs action and the way the club reps have tried to reply. It would be perfectly understandable for a club rep not to comment any further as they will expect abuse. I can only think that some of the comments on here will just reduce the enjoyment of future opens, as the committee will tighten the rules greatly to protect themselves. Also 370 anglers fished the open, a handful of anglers have commented on here abusing the shields club and its committee, certainly not 370 anglers. how can somebody say 85% of anglers say the committee are in the wrong, I think the majority of anglers followed the rules and understand the committee were put in a very difficult position and respect there judgement. I wonder! how many of these people giving out abuse actually fished the open.
