fire away lads!!!

you head north to newton, craster, beadnell, seahouses, eyemouth,st abbs, for good size red cod, wrasse pollock, coalys on fresh crab or spinning with lures. davy.

Head for the south coast in West Sussex around July time.

Smoothhound run will be in full swing. Double figure fish are not unusual and if they hit the beach in numbers a dozen fish between 7 and 17lb in a session is not uncommon. Selsey West beach is the "Mecca" but Pagham, Ferring, Goring by Sea to the east and Hayling, Browndown, Lee on Solent and Hill Head to the west will all produce as well.

Daytime you can have great fun hammering the Black Bream with fish to 3lb on Selsey East beach. Hot, calm nights give the chance of a Stingray on Pagham or, to the west Bronwich beach just west of Hill Head (good chance of hounds here as well to 10lb and if you are lucky Golden grey mullet and Gilthead Bream). Chance of a Bass on all these beaches, nothing massive but good fun.

Not the easiest fishing as you can be weeded off at times but when the Hounds hit it can be spectacular - picture 30 lads in a row and one after the other every rod goes bananas as a decent size smut hits the bait :o

Drive is not much further (about 40 miles) and probably a lot easier than travelling to Etive. Plenty of campsites or the caravan park at Selsey for accommodation.

for me this year it will be up north too newton beadnell etc for the red cod and pollock, local piers when i cannot get away for pollock, over the west coast noth england and scotland for the bass and more pollock etc.

also be trying my hand up arbroath in he summer as can be good for big pollock and red cod

also be heading down to holderness for the first time this year for a chance at the hounds and bass and hopefulyl a ray.

i love my winter fishing but by this time of the eyar all i want to do is sit on a rock spinning with a light rod and a big rod with fresh crab for the chance of something bigger. sunshine.

lets hope we get a better summer than last.

oh and i have a trip to norway in july booked in aswel

top notch post that stewart!!

smothhound is top of my list allready funnily enuff. cheers.

st abbs, eymouth and torness will all be day trips but thanks for the comments.

also port logan looks nice aswell as the common locations like portpatrick and kircudbright all all the cards.

anyone have much experience with wales, for hounds and rays?

also what would be the best area to research for bass? not wanting to venture as far as cornwall and devon but most areas a touch closer will do.

anyone have much experince targeting big plaice from the shore also?

thanks m8 cant wait for norway 4 months and counting get amongst some decent fish off the boat. my first trip over there. much prefer summer to winter

norway is something im in no rush to do.

this island of ours is vast and the fishing can be amazing. id be happy spending the next 20 years learning the english and scottish coast in travelling to ireland at some point. then ill venture accross the pond for halibut which in all honesty is the only thing that attracts me.

then the ultimate for me will be salmon fishing in canada!

Mine will be same as seatroots apart from when he's in Norway I intend to be in southern Ireland (beara pennilsular) fishing mainly for Pollock and bass fishing over there is great by all accounts some where I really want to go

Always have a week on the Mull every summer, based in Sandhead. It used to be primarily for the Pollack fishing, but I've been bitten big style by plugging for Bass. I still do the the Pollack fishing though, found 2 great marks last year that I can't wait to try out this year;)

Firstly will be a weekend at the Mull of Galloway for me hunting for Wrasse, Pollock and Bass then a few days on the Holderness coast probably Easington, Hilstone and Tunstall hunting for Smoothounds and Rays and maybe a few Bass too
