summer....... who goes where and for what.

I can't wait for the summer fishing me like. It's my favourite time of the year especially the pollack bashing. I like the winter fishing but never do so well getting decent coddies but lure fishing for pollack in the summer always gets me some good fish. Locally I've only ever fished SSP and Dunstanborough for pollack but this year I am looking to find some new marks close to home so if anyone can recommend somewhere within an hour or so drive of the Tyne I would love to hear about it.

In May I am off on my annual pilgramage to Chesil Beach where I will be species hunting with bait (guaranteed doggies, pout, poor cod and always the chance of a bass) and also lure fishing for bass and mackerel. From there we are travelling to south Cornwall for a week where I will be float fishing and spinning off various rock marks.

In August I will be doing some serious pollack bashing at my favourite mark in NE Scotland (Aberdeenshire). I lost some whoppers on the retrieve last year through various reasons but I am back this year to try again and hopefully keep some on my hook.:D

I love Chesil, had some great sessions there over the years. Didn't love the yomp along the shingle though, an absolute killer that one. It could also be incredibly frustrating - nothing worse than making a 200 mile round trip to spend the night pulling in Woofers two at a time.

May time there might still be some nice Plaice to be had at West Bexington; further west at Cogden there is a reasonable chance of Spotted Ray and you also have a chance of early Smuts from the whole stretch. Too early in the year for the really rare species - Trigger fish are more of an August / September species from the Adelaide (thankfully for the rest of us in the species hunt ;) )

I know I could be bised because I live here but the Beara offers so much variety. Check out www.bearseafishing.com for more info.

Nice to have you on board mate hoping to get over in July for four days I have read nothing but good things about fishing over there and If you don't mind will pm you later in year for some advice on marks and what gear to take over
Cheers phil

it always beats me why we as anglers have this seemingly obsession towards cod when we have such variaty out there.

as long as im able to keep scratching of new species in different locations i wouldnt care if i never cought a cod again.

some cracking info been shared here fellas cheers!!

sounds like a few of us at least have some exiting trips on the cards

good luck! :)

We had them to 14lbs off the shore last year but plenty in the 4-6 pound range with catches of 30 to 40 fish in a session recorded.

Nice one mate am looking at getting over this July now with me father be much appreciated if you could point is right direction with what tackle ill need mate cheers.

I think part of the obsession is due to the fact that fishing for them round here could result in your biggest ever fish.

I had a break from fishing for them for a couple of years and didn't really miss it, but came back this year and I got that old buzz back, different from the buzz you get when a Bass hammers into your popper, or Pollack slams into your floatfished launce....its when the tip goes down, springs back and you've got slack line, its a magic all of its own, knowing that it could be a double figure fish there.
