Tynemouth Beach 30thAug11

After a decent flattie and a coalie a couple of nights ago, went back last night to fish the big tide at Boiler Hole. Had some crackin bait from Lewis' in Whitley including some huge ragworms that bit and thrashed about like snakes. Cocktails of rag,peeler,runny,mussel and squid caught fish: a couple of coalies close in seemed to like the mussel (undersize tho). Got out onto the skeer that runs out past the Boiler at low water and had a bite straight away - missed. Then, next cast, a little bite and a nice fight along side the skeer - a 1lb8oz codling. No giant but my first for a long time. Here's hoping youz all have a successful winter. Cheers NESA

Well done mate. I was further down the beach from you and had my first cheque book and pen of the year. Fished the ebb down to low; up until an hour before LT the weed was horrendous with bloody great lumps of kelp attaching themselves to me hook and grip lead. Last hour of the ebb the weed disappeared but the fish didn't appear instead. Did have a massive slack liner but when I caught up with it there was nothing there. Only had crab from the freezer for bait which probably didn't help.

Packed up about half an hour after LT when it started to p1ss it down. Still it was good to try a new venue for me and a big thankyou goes out to the two members on here who were very generous with their advice. I found it quite a difficult place to fish for my first time but I'm looking forward to coming back and trying again.

hi malchom you should have moved on to the skeer left hand side off the beach slaty gut you would have been out off range off the weed ,if still weedy a short walk to the bathing pool skeer right side off the beach would have saved your blank with cod or maybe abonus bass .hope this helps for your next visit davy:red:

Pretty much took the words out of my mouth Davy, would just add on the bigger tides I'd probably have made my way out to Stony Bottom on the ebb & fished the bathing pool on the flood - that was the plan but never made it out last night, hope to get out somewhere tonight but looks like the sea's dropped off a lot.

i must of fished to the right of you rossw, seen you go on the skeer when i was leaving and i only managed an undersize coaley when i got a birdnest and landed close in.

Hallo Malcolm and Adam.. I saw your lights and wondered how you got on. Malcolm (I know that's not yer real name, like!) Gary and Dave know their stuff so I would definately follow their advice and, to be honest, I'm a novice and don't get out often enough to improve, but I've always found the boiler hole and boiler skeer worth a shot when it's weedy. It's not so weedy there. Slaty Gut seems to be more popular. Good luck!

The boiler hole and skier is a very good shot, best if there's only one or two of you though. Often worth a few chucks before trying Slatey, or vice versa if there's nowt there, depending on the sea & weed situation the fish are usually in one of the holes.

get most of my fish from the south end of the beach(got 2 on monday night),i often see loads of lamps down the north end and onto slatey but not many from the middle to the pool.i do have the odd go at bottom of the stairs or on slatey but 8 out of 10 times its south end for me
