Seaham South Pier

Dont want to be the bearer of bad news lads, but I knew it would be coming.
Anyone found fishing on Seaham South Pier now runs the risk of having their details taken by the Police, if having been called down by the Dock Company, and the possibility of a private summons being issued for Trespass, just as what was happening a few years back at Sunderland Docks.
It has come to a head after Dock Staff have been verbally abused by some anglers, after being requested to leave the Area.
No one more than me would love to fish my Old Stomping ground, but looks like its the end of the road.

Now that's a great shame indeed,south pier is a great mark and I would say would have seen more cod hauled from it than most piers.
I fished it 35yrs ago and had some of my best fishing at this pier.
But we don't help ourselves do we and the dock company have their reasons.
Sad day and a good mark lost.

plus the only reason they dont want ya to fish the docks at sunderland cos of all the **** they pump into the sea

Eddie, it wont be long before the same will apply to Roker pier,what with last weeks incident with the lads having to be rescued,and then tonight I was down Roker to fish the Ratty when lo and behold lights on the pier obviously a few anglers had decided to dice with death and risk chucking a lead into a massive sea which was breaking over the pier from not only the open sea side but from the bay side.Apparently they were requested to leave by the police,but they are adding to the councils ammunition to have anglers banned permanantly from the pier,plus the fact that with seas the way they are at the minute someone will be washed off and lost...and nobody wants that!!

Seen the old bills blue lights flashing at entrance and thought they might start upping their game by confiscating tackle. Apparently they take details and then fine them. Do you think its a real possibility they could stop anglers or will it take another soul to get taken before they pull the plug completely.

they cant stop itt as lads climb the gate however if they start taking peoples gear it might stop people doing it but till then pople will chance it even if they get a fine go to court and if ya not working you pay a pound a week

Agree Alan, thats just lunacy given the sea conditions last night.

As you know, I'm no saint when it comes to the locked gates at Roker, but I do believe I know when its safe for me to go on and when its not. The lads on there last night need their heads looking at.

I was down there at 7.00pm and returned at about 10.00 when I was speaking to a lad on the beach who said the police had removed the lads from the pier.They should defo have tackle confiscated be a warning to everyone not to go onto the pier in those conditions.They are not only putting themselves at risk but the emergency services as well if anything were to happen!!

same thing happining on tynemouth pier anglers been fishing all week in massive seas just waiting for the next accident the trouble is there is no raiilings on the bottom level and any wave coming over throws you into the sea as happened to a couple of lads a couple years ago ,how would you feel a knock on the door telling you your loved ones have drowned,you also had the two lads climing the gates who slipped and went in lucky they were in hospital a few days its only common sense. davy.

When did this happen mate

Has come to a head in the last few days. The local PCSO has been liaising with the Dock Company and knowing that I fish / live in the area she told me what was happening.
I told her if that was the crack then the lads need to be warned in advance rather than straight in at the DEEP END. So I'm informing as many as possible and the PCSO wants me to take her to the clubhouse so she can inform the lads at the Club.

When I climb over the gates, the conditions are never bad. Ever. I make sure the forecast is good, the tides are favourable, and the sea is dying away. That, in my eyes, isn't bad conditions.

I've fished with Davyred on numerous occasions on Roker Pier. We never did anything that endangered our lives, We always took the weather forecast for the next few hours, and on the odd occasion the weather forecast was wrong we'd get off the pier when the sea conditions weren't as we expected, and this was years ago. With the information that is now available on the internet with the weather then people have NO excuse.

It's fine to put your lives at risk lads and I'm not saying I've never done something I probably shouldn't but anglers can't keep expecting other people to come to the rescue when something goes wrong this type of behaviour gets all of us tarred with the same brush and will result in some venues being closed off and bylaw put in place to stop fishing on these structors.
